Developers find themselves working on many tasks that are very similar in nature. While this helps deepen their skills, these same skills turn the tasks into less of a challenge and more of a routine.

Routine isn’t great for motivation, so how can we keep developers engaged? We must start with the KPIs and the targets that our developers should be aiming for. Providing them with a clear path to hitting these targets, but also to developing and broadening their skill set and their careers.

We must provide them with a work environment where managers and colleagues can easily recognise each others efforts. An environment where, as an organisation, we can recognise our developers progress and efforts as well.
